As the PA Office of Open Records states, municipal agencies are to ensure that citizens are provided access to records to which they are entitled. Equally important, Requesters are to use good judgment in seeking records from the public body and not use this law to harass or overburden a public body from performing its other functions. The Office of Open Records encourages patience and a spirit of cooperation among all parties. Process
Step 1: Submit request
Fill out the PDF with as much detail as possible. Submit the form in person at the Township Building or through email to info@hellamtownship.gov. Requests that do not include desired subject and time frame may be denied.
Step 2: Await a response
We will respond to your request within five (5) business days with either an approval, denial, or 30-day extension.
Step 3: What to expect
- If you received an approval the information will be provided to you in the requested format.
- If you received a denial you have the right to file an appeal.
- If you received a 30-day extension you will receive either an approval, partial approval or denial at the end of the 30-days. Feel free to follow up via phone or email to check the status of the request
Fee
Right to know requests are often free. However, approvals may require the requester to pay a fee.
Common requests with a cost are:
- Hard Copies: $0.25 per page (black and white), $0.75 (color)
- Police Report: $15
- Police Video: $125
